McCain's needs to stop pandering to the right a make a bold maverick, TR'esque, move. Here are some ideas:

He was against Bush's tax cuts because we couldn't afford them. More recently he backs extending them. He should go back to what his gut told him originally.

He was a leader in pushing immigration reform through the Senate. Now he says he will secure the border first before working out a path to citizenship for the 12 million illegals. The border will never be fully secure so securing it should not be a pre-requisite for finding a workable solution for those 12 million.

He's been a fighter for the environment his whole career which is admirable. Now he is pushing for offshore drilling as a bandaid for high gas prices. This idea is bad for the environment. It also is not the best way to get off foreign oil. The main benefit to high gas prices is that it creates incentives to find alternatives, until we find alternatives we won't get off foreign oil and we prices of oil won't go down worldwide do to our offshore drilling (there just isn't enough oil there).

Lastly he could make a bold TR move by picking a bold VP. My suggestion is Joe Lieberman or Michael Bloomberg.
