The book is a great read. You won't be able to put it down. Also, I agree about trying it out for yourself.

I've been running mostly barefoot (using the vibram five fingers) for the past week and it has brought a whole new aspect to running. Very tactile.

It definitely uses diff muscles as well. I've learned that you really need to ease into though. My calves are very sore...

Thanks for the insight Clynton. I totally agree that it's more about enjoying life than anything.

It's about doing something just for the pure joy of it, not because of fame or riches. Good stuff!

It is indeed an incredible book in every way. And while the focus is on running, I found it to be about living. About enjoying life. It completely turned everything I thought true about running upside down, and for that, I am eternally grateful. I have a pair of Vibram Five Fingers KSOs and as soon as my back surgeon gives me the green light, I'm going to start running in them. I am walking in them now so I can waken my muscles and nerves for when I'm ready to start running. The most important thing is to take barefoot running slowly. Listen to your feet and don't even think about doing long miles at first. There are also some other barefoot alternative shoes (minimal shoes) on the market (Nike Free, Newton's, and Inov8 are NOT good alternatives). I have been compiling a list of these shoes on my website (www.runningquest.net). Enjoy the adventure!
